A winning strategy for retirement plan participation seems to be the presence of a matching contribution. According to a 2017 study by Deloitte, 41% of plan sponsors said that “taking advantage of the company match” was the leading reason that their employees chose to participate in a retirement plan — up from 35% in 2015.1
